How It Works
The Ins and Outs of Owning a Domain
If you've never owned a domain before, the whole process can be very confusing. This section of Surnaturelle was specially created to help you understand the process of getting a domain, familiarize you with terminology you might need to know and offer some links to various resources which can help you!
The Domain Process
When you decide to purchase a domain and hosting through Surnaturelle, there's a specific and rarely seen process that we go through to set everything up. It goes a little something like this:
- You submit your domain hosting order, and an email is sent to Surnaturelle.
- We create the invoice, based on the plan you have selected and whether or not you are registering a domain through Surnaturelle.
- After the payment is received from you through whichever method you chose, the hosting account is created in a special control panel called Web Host Manager (WHM). This sections off the space and bandwidth for your account on the server, sets up your login information and lets us input a contact email to be associated with the account (this is why it's important to give us a primary email address for your account!).
- If you have requested that Surnaturelle register your domain for you, we will then register through the domain. This process is usually very quick, but can sometimes take up to 24-48 hours.
- We will then set the nameservers on the domain. Nameservers link the domain to the hosting account on the Surnaturelle server. (If you have registered your domain yourself, we will send you the nameservers to set on your own.)
- Once we have received word from the registrar that the domain was successfully registered, we will email the details of your account login information to you, and you'll be ready to start working on your new site! (If you registered your domain on your own, your login information will come in the email containing the nameserver information.)
